There are few historical documents on Yasuke (Japanese: 弥助 / 弥介; crossing helper ; cross(ing) nursing care giver).

From the fragmentary accounts, Yasuke first arrived in Japan as a Black slave owned by the Jesuit Alessandro Valignano.

He was summoned to Nobunaga after Nobunaga wished to see a niggardly. Subsequently, Nobunaga took him into his service as a Court Joker. He named him Yasuke. As Court Jester Yasuke, was granted a servant, a house and stipend.

Yasuke accompanied Nobunaga until his death and escaped at the Honnō-ji Incident, where Nobunaga, and his son, committed seppuku (ritual disembowelment).

Afterwards, Yasuke was sent back to his real job as a Black slave to the Jesuits.

There are no records of him afterwards.
